Taylor Swift song is the meaning of "Bad Blood" from her 1989 album

I have heard varying opinions on this song in the Taylor fandom, but I personally relate to this song to the T.  There have been people in my life that have just started ignoring me for no reason, been mean to me for no reason, and many tears have been shed. Unfortunately it doesn't end with high school.  When I first heard about this song I knew I would relate to it, and every time I hear it, it speaks to me.  For me it's a way to release myself of the unjustified hate that others bring on me so I can focus on the real relationships that matter to me in my life.

Taylor tells Rolling Stone on September 8, 2014, "Sometimes the lines in a song are lines you wish you could text-message somebody in real life. I would just be constantly writing all these zingers – like, 'Burn. That would really get her.' And I know people are going to obsess over who it's about, because they think they have all my relationships mapped out. But there's a reason there are not any overt call-outs in that song. My intent was not to create some gossip-fest. I wanted people to apply it to a situation where they felt betrayed in their own lives."  I can definitely relate this to my life.

Who is this song about?  For not wanting to give it away in the song, Taylor gave it away in the article. She tells Rolling Stone, "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not.  She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?' She did something so horrible.  I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."

Who stole Taylor's people?  It was Katy Perry.

Katy and Taylor came on the music scene about the same time and were seen together at many events.  Taylor desperately wanted to be friends with her.  Katy was always the wild and crazy one when they were together.  But their relationship grew strained over the years as each went on their paths.

Katy stole some of Taylor's dancers and crew from her "Red" tour for her "Prism" tour.  An ex dancer of Taylor's Lockhart Brownlie, who formally danced with Katy told Manika Dadson Dec. 20, 2013, "I was with Taylor for the first six months. It was a great experience and she's a great person to work with, but then Katy contacted us." And the rest is history, or a song in this case.

The tour is not the only thing these two had in common.  They both dated John Mayer, a guy Taylor has written about many times.  I think Katy was jealous of the feelings that John had for Taylor.  In his song "Paper Doll" he describes his relationship with Taylor.  He says, "sure was fun being good to you". He confesses he looks back fondly and enjoyed being with her.  "You’re like twenty-two girls in one/And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from/Was it just too far to fall?/For a little paper doll". He references her song 22 from "Red" and says she was the one who ran.  Then he also references her parents, saying she should, "cut the cord and pull some strings."  In her song "Ours" she also references her dad not approving of his tattoos. In "Dear John" she says her mom doesn't approve of the relationship either.  Things ended by her just not responding anymore.  She "stopped pickin’ up" the phone calls from him  and "Dear John" "is to let you know why."  In the "Story of Us", Taylor says she never knew "what page you're on", she never knew where they were standing.  "Paper Doll" was an answer to her "Speak Now" album of song about him.  Basically he didn't know why she ran away and he enjoyed being with her.  Well for Katy that probably wasn't the thing she wanted her boyfriend to be singing about.  Telling an old girlfriend that he enjoyed her.  Katy here set herself up for failure though, she was the one that was dating her "friend's" ex-boyfriend.  You just don't do that if you're friends.

After that I can only imagine that Katy was like ice to Taylor, mean to her etc and that's why Taylor was hurt.  First she started her dating her ex-boyfriend and then she stole her dancers.  She probably also wasn't very kind to her in passing.  Taylor says in her track by track descriptions, "Bad Blood is a song that I wrote about a new kind of heartbreak that I experienced recently which was when someone I desperately wanted to be my friend and thought was my friend ended up making it very obvious that she wasn't. This was somebody that I really looked up to and really really longed for the approval of this person so it was kind of devastating to receive a kind of low blow from that person.   This song is the first time I ever really stood up myself in that relationship cause she was always the bolder one and the louder one. I think it's important to stand up for yourself even if you can only really come up with the courage to do it in song form then that's how you should do it."

She certainly does that in this song.  She calls out Katy, talks about how they used to have "mad love", but she's "still got scars on my back from your knife" because she "made a really deep cut". and they can't "pretend we'd be fine".  They've "got problems", and she doesn't think they can "solve them".  Katy brought this on, she didn't "think it all through".  She did things to intentionally hurt Taylor.  But Taylor is not going to take Katy's "sorry just for show".

I think Katy grew jealous of Taylor through the years.  Even though they started out the same time Taylor has had infinitely more success than Katy.  And worse yet for Katy, Taylor had a little piece of her boyfriend's heart.  Katy did all these things for spite.  Honestly I don't know how to resolve this.  I've resolved my Katy Perry's by moving away and never having to talk to them again.  It would be nice if they could just get in a room and talk it out.  There was a person in my life that this sort of thing started happening.  She called me out and we went and duked it out in the rain.  Well not really duking because it was just words.  And you know what? She became one of my best friends.  Now everyone that I've had those sort of problems with have I become best friends, sometimes I just ignore them.  I hope this situation with Katy doesn't blow up even more.  I know Katy is egging it on.  I am glad Taylor is just standing up to her, ignoring her and concentrating on the people that really matter in her life.  Keep strong Taylor and don't let her get to you!

Kanchi Singh is the lead in Rajan Shahi’s Aur…Pyaar Ho Gaya

Kanchi Singh is over the moon to have bagged the lead role in Rajan Shahi’s next show on Zee TV, Aur…Pyaar Ho Gaya. Reeling under the tremendous response that the first promo has garnered, Kanchi feels she is extremely lucky that the producer chose her for the lead role when she had actually gone to audition for another smaller role. She says, “My character’s name is Avni. She is a college student and is the youngest and the only girl in the Khandelwal family. The story is based in Jaipur and we’ll be soon heading there for a long outdoor shoot.”

Facing the camera is not new for Kanchi. As a child actor she has acted in popular shows like Kutumb, Kasam Se, Kahiin Toh Hoga and many others. Not only this, she has also featured in many ads and has also done theatre with Nadira Babbar’s group. “So you can say that acting is in my blood..” says actress with confidence.

She further asserts, “I was shocked. I couldn’t believe when I was told that I am the lead in the show. Avni (her character) is full of life, energetic and vivacious and has never fallen in love. She’s very curious to know how it happens… she keeps asking her near and dear ones, ‘Aapko pyaar kaise hua?... My character is a lot like Simran of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge!”

The actor has been given an Indian look in the show and will be adorning ethnic designer wear. “I’ll be wearing jackets on my dresses and pom poms on my dupattas,” gushes the pretty actress.

Producer Rajan Shahi said, “Aur…Pyaar Ho Gaya is a look into the life of a young girl who leads a protected life in the city of Jaipur. She is bound by the rule book that her highly traditional family has laid down for her. The story captures the journey of this girl who transcends the boundaries set for her and begins to experience life in all its glory. We’re glad to have found our Avni in Kanchi. We wanted a cute, innocent, young face and Kanchi fit the bill to the tee. ”

The show is slated to hit the screens in the New Year. Stay tuned to Zee TV!

Commissions have always been a part of my art life, although I'm doing fewer and fewer due to my work load at the moment.  As a painter for 25 years I've had numerous clients (from larges churches, investment companies, largest collectors of art, etc.) and I never take for granted the love and joy these projects bring and the loyalty of my many returning clients.  I would like to share a recent email with you here and I must admit it brought tears to my eyes (I'm very sentimental if you have not guessed yet:) "I received my two prints late yesterday.  Thank you SO very much!  I love them both;  I was beyond delighted to receive "tulipmania" in a larger size!!!!!  I waited all January for you to return from vacation!!!!!  I had wanted that print for ages!!!!!  I absolutely love all of your work, and even have some things in my cart to order in March!  I am a (......) young interior decorator, who is trying to "do" a bedroom on  a budget!!!!!  Not an easy task in Arkansas!!!!!  At any rate, thanx again and you will be seeing another order soon!!!!!  -V.

Last but not least, I'm so excited to give you a hint of another new collaboration with White House Black Market for their Fall Collection, but this is in the process of development, so stay tuned for more updates on this very exciting project....

As always, thank you for visiting and please be kind to leave me your comment,

Three Months and Three Exhibitions

Zip, Zang, Pow!  Three busy months at Clamp Light and three great exhibitions to show for it!

November started off with Carol Cunningham's exhibition POP! Pop continued Cunningham's research into the world of animals and the consumer market through a new interactive experience including Popping Fireworks, Popping Balloons and Pop Culture all centering around the animal.

The exhibition Pop showcased site-specific and time-based installations alongside an investigatory photographic series. Cunningham's was inspired by the tangled cocktail of the childhood song “Pop Goes The Weasel” and the everyday animal/human interaction. Her use of objects such as tootsie pops, popsicle, and actual fireworks that you can pop; drew  both comical and poignant links to our societal interactions with animals.

December was all about the #dinogram ! Chris Adams Exhibition entitled #dinogram was clouded with lots of mystery and intrigue until a few days before the opening. Adams exhibition centered around his exploration on the scanner, something Chris refers to as a Scano-gram. These larger than life digital prints juxtaposed pre-historical animal figures alongside living flora and fauna. Visitors to the gallery during the month were encouraged to take photos and use the hashtag #dinogram creating a historical archive of the big event!

January was all about Jessica Sailors and the female form! Sailors transformed the gallery in a landscape of the body. Her exhibition explored both sculptural and functional forms using ceramics, and photographic self-portraiture. Guests were both delighted and intrigued by hidden sexual signifiers throughout the opening and month. Her photographic work within a picturesque home creates an eerie and uncomfortable insight investigating issues of cultural norms surrounding the female body and beautifying rituals.

For more images of these three great exhibitions be sure to check out our photography archive on Facebook. @ https://www.facebook.com/ClampLight?ref=aymt_homepage_panell

Goodbye 2014... Hello 2015!

Today is the first Monday in January and my first post of 2015.  I made a new year's resolution and I will be starting a year long project " tips and tricks of blogging for artists" ... and I hope you will come along for the fun and we all learn some new things along the way ... stay tuned!

My Etsy Shop
I realize that I'm not a professional blogger ... and it's not to in my plans to be such.  I love to just do art, but creating art is not the only thing artists have to do.   As any professional artist will tell you - there are many hats to be worn.  So, this year I will share my blogging tips and tricks on a monthly basis with the goal of helping new artists or bloggers with the challenges they might face.

I don't like to be predictable in my blog posts, but I would like to be more cohesive with my postings schedule.  Last year I tried to post weekly and sometimes failed and it brought guilt, then disappointment ... so this year I will commit to twice monthly postings.  Also, as you noticed, my blog is about my art and the things that inspire me.   I will continue to post my museums trips, and my personal work ... all of which will be seen thru my life experiences and my personal travel plans.  Right now I have 3 destinations in my plans for this year : San Francisco in early spring - I'm looking to create a series of romantic pieces and hope to be inspired by the things that I see and feel there.  A European tour in May (Paris included!) ... I'm certain that many new memories and inspirations await me there!  I hope to end the summer in Russia with my mother and enjoying her delicious cooking.  So until then I continue to plan and dream and of course hope for many surprises and opportunities to come along as well!   So as my 2015 begins, I'm reminded that the journey is not about the destination, it's more about enjoying the ride! :)

Last year I had amazing opportunities work with the White House Black Market team. You never know who might be seeing your work online! As you see from my FB or Instagram posts, WHBM has created several items based on my Paris related art that are now appearing nationwide in their stores and I'm so extremely happy and thankful for this great collaboration with WHBM.

As for my friends and followers - May your coming year be filled with magic, joy, and great memories! I hope you kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful ... and don't forget to make some art - draw, or write, or build, or live as only you can.  And I hope somewhere in the next year, you will surprise yourself. May you have a peaceful and focused week ahead and see you around! with love, Lana
