Thoughts on "I am what you want me to be" new work by Sarah Roberts

I am sitting here looking at the Facebook invite (https://www.facebook.com/events/475577922569275/?ref=22) for Sarah’s upcoming show here at Clamp Light on April 11, and am struck by amalgamation of materials that go into her pieces. The reconfiguration of found materials, held together with simple string and knot work allows the viewer to construct their own narratives, between past and present, person and evidence, and most assuredly between artist and viewer. The work is about communication between memory and self, driving us to be introspective. Sarah speaks about this site-specific installation in terms of creating a womb-like space for the viewer; this expresses to the desire within many of us (speaking for myself at least) to limit the overwhelming sensory input, which we experience on a minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour basis. I look forward to seeing where she is going with these ideas and can’t wait for April 11th.
See you there,

Tom
